Why are men silently suffering?
“Mood swings? But you’re a man, be strong.”
This sentence alone has stopped thousands of Indian men from getting help.We talk about emotions, but we rarely talk about how they show up in men. Especially in places like Gujarat, where many boys are taught to be providers, protectors, and problem-solvers—but never the one with emotions. Kyu bhai, tumhare pass mind nahi hai kya? kyuki agar mind hai, toh mind problems bhi hai. everything needs a pit stop. A "Cope Bhawan".
And yet, in cities like Ahmedabad, one of the most searched mental health topics is:"Why am I feeling low all the time?"The most common symptom? Mood swings.
But here’s the truth: mood swings in men are not always loud or dramatic. Sometimes they look like this:– You suddenly snap at your loved ones– You stay silent when you really want to cry– You avoid people, then feel lonely– You drink, binge-watch, or scroll endlessly just to feel okay
Sound familiar?
What do mood swings in men really mean?
Mood swings are often misunderstood as just being "too emotional." But for men, they can be a sign of something deeper—burnout, grief, unspoken anger, childhood trauma, or long-term stress.
According to the TeleMANAS helpline data in Ahmedabad, over 36% of callers were men aged 18–45 who reported symptoms like “nothing feels enjoyable” or “I just don’t feel like myself anymore.”This isn’t weakness. It’s your system trying to cope.
Why it goes unnoticed in men
Men are more likely to internalize their pain. They say: “I’m just tired.” But what they often mean is:“I don’t know why I’m sad.”“I feel numb.”“I don’t want to be here, but I don’t want to talk about it either.”
Culturally, we don’t teach our boys to name their emotions. So as grown men, they either shut down or explode.

Signs you (or a man you love) might be struggling with mood swings
– Frequent irritability or anger
– Withdrawing from friends or family
– Trouble sleeping or oversleeping
– Feeling numb or disconnected
– Using alcohol or distractions to cope
– Saying “I’m fine” but not feeling fine
If this has been going on for more than two weeks, it’s time to check in—not just with yourself, but with a therapist who can hold space for you.
Dear men: Feeling off doesn’t make you less of a man.
If no one has said this to you yet—let me be the first. You’re allowed to feel lost. You’re allowed to not have it all together. And you are allowed to get help without feeling ashamed.
At SEVEE, we’ve worked with men who never spoke a word about their pain… until one day, they did.And that changed everything.
Therapy isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about becoming who you’ve always been—beneath the noise, the pressure, and the weight.

You matter. Your moods matter.
If you’re a man in Ahmedabad, Gujarat—or anywhere in the world—know this:Mood swings are a signal, not a flaw. They are your body’s way of saying: “Hey, let’s slow down. Let’s figure this out.”
Whether it’s stress, heartbreak, work pressure, or memories you don’t talk about…You don’t have to carry it alone.
